2006 Listing of Downtown
Potentially Eligible Landmarks

In 2006 Mayor Rick Baker organized a day long Historic Preservation Summit.  The event  sought public input on what buildings should be considered special.  Subsequently, the Mayor’s Historic Preservation Summit Booklet was made available.  This eleven page booklet identified 82 properties worthy of potential landmark designation and concentrated in the downtown area. The booklet provides a thumbnail photo and short description for each of the 82 buildings.  Today, the list of buildings constitutes the city's potentially eligible list of landmarks.  Interested to see if your favorite downtown building is listed?  Just click here to open the booklet!

In early 2016, as called for by the city's Comprehensive Plan, the city decided to begin the  process to "update" the potentially eligible list of landmarks. The city will be taking public comment, appointing a "stakeholders" group and bringing a staff recommendation before the city's preservation commission for adoption.

January 2018 Update: The city has not moved forward with updating the potentially eligible list of landmark properties. The result is the city is loosing historic structures contributing to the city's character as the construction boom continues.
