St. Petersburg Preservation works to preserve St. Petersburg’s incredible sense of place through community outreach and advocacy. On any given day, SPP representatives may meet with city officials, developers, or owners of historic properties to advocate for better preservation laws, place-conscious development, and thoughtful maintenance of our historic homes. Our success relies heavily on the strength of our member base, and we ask you to demonstrate your support for preservation by becoming a member of SPP, making a donation, or sending a message to City Council stating your desire to Preserve the ‘Burg.
During 2015, SPP was heavily focused on proposed changes to the city’s historic preservation ordinance. Read an overview of SPP’s position on the changes here or delve a little deeper into the details with our FAQ sheet here. In September 2015, the city council adopted changes to the preservation ordinance, taking a small step forward in adopting some of the changes sought by SPP.
In 2016, with the "boom" in full swing the 'Burg's sense of place is being threatened with the demolition of historic homes and buildings. SPP will be working with neighborhoods and standing before city council to help keep St. Pete special.
