PTB & Driftwood Neighborhood Await City's Restart of the Historic District Designation Process

date
June 28, 2021

PTB continues to support historic district designation for Driftwood. While city council voted to create a district in 2019, that decision was set aside by a court decision in March 2020. The court did not determine the neighborhood fails to meet the standards to be a district, rather, the court found the city had failed to follow procedural requirements related to date stamping the receipt of a portion of the application.

The city administration has said they also continue to support district designation for Driftwood and they will bring the matter back to city council to restart the designation process. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the city administration to do so. You can help get the designation process restarted by sending an email to city council, council@stpete.org, and telling them you support Driftwood historic district designation.
