Jack Kerouac House

Location
5169 10th Avenue North

History

The Jack Kerouac House, located at 5169 10th Avenue North in St. Petersburg's Disston Heights neighborhood, was the final residence of the renowned Beat Generation writer Jack Kerouac. He lived there with his third wife, Stella, and his mother, Gabrielle, from 1965 until his death in 1969.

The house, built in 1963, is a modest, single-story structure typical of the neighborhood and characterized by its minimalist design and brick veneer. Following Kerouac's death, the property remained within the family until 2020, when Ken and Gina Burchenal purchased it with the intent to preserve its historical significance.

Working with Preserve the ‘Burg, the St. Petersburg City Council unanimously designated the Kerouac House as a local historic landmark in June of 2022.

Today, the house serves as a cultural space managed by the nonprofit Jack Kerouac House of St. Petersburg Inc. It hosts various events, including tours, literary readings, and community gatherings, allowing visitors to engage with the legacy of Jack Kerouac in the very space where he spent his final years.
